About TNAF
The Tuesday Night Athletic Foundation (TNAF) is a non-profit organization created to relieve the financial burden placed on families that can be inherent with high performance sports programs; providing scholarships in the pursuit of the cultivation of promising local athletes. Without the support of you, TNAF could never reach its goal of making amateur sports, at all levels, accessible to every youth, no matter what their family's financial situation is. TNAF believes that athletics can be a very positive force in a young person's life. Confidence is gained with every goal reached. Lasting friendships are made on every team. Character is built at every failure.
TNAF's first full year in operation, 2008, was quite exciting. After organizing the Board of Directors and filing with Rhode Island as a public charity, TNAF held its first fundraiser in March 2008 - a Beef & Beer at Easton's Point Pub in Middletown, RI. It was a success by every account. Fun was had by all who attended, and the next morning, TNAF made its first deposit into its scholarship fund. TNAF then began accepting scholarship applications and started planning its next fundraising effort. On September 13th of that same year, TNAF hosted the Second Beach Open Water Challenge. Over 180 swimmers competed in this one-mile ocean swim, including URI's men's swim team, PC's men's & women's swim teams, and RI's own Olympian - Elizabeth Beisel. Competitors gave the race great reviews and all promised they would be returning for next year.
TNAF kicked off 2009 with style, hosting its First Annual Winter Gala at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI. This semiformal fundraiser featured catered hors d'oeuvres, live jazz by the amazing John Monllos & Company, a very successful silent auction, and much more. Over 150 guests attended, some hailing from as far as the midwest. We are thrilled to now have this as our annual winter event and look forward to planning next year's Gala.
Using the funds raised during these events, TNAF has awarded 13 scholarship recipients with awards ranging from $250 to $1,000. These scholarships have paid for football camps, basketball camps, team registration, and travel costs to competitions. TNAF is always accepting applications and encourages you to help young athletes apply for a TNAF scholarship.
Again, we cannot thank you enough for your support. The Board's efforts would be nothing without the support of the community. To keep up with TNAF happenings during the year, or to get any additional information, please check out the rest of the website.
